How to Maintain Oral Hygiene?

The practice of keeping the mouth and teeth clean to prevent dental issues such as pyorrhoea, cavities, gum disease, and bad breath is known as oral hygiene. Good oral health makes your mouth smells and looks healthy. If you have good oral hygiene then,

  • You don’t have a bad breath problem.
  • Your teeth are clean and free of debris.
  • You have pink gums that do not hurt or bleed when you floss or brush.

If you suffer from oral health issues and don’t look after them, you may lose your tooth and self-confidence. You have to face speech problems and many other difficulties in personal as well as professional life. Moreover, you can stand confident in society only if you know your mouth doesn’t stink. So, it is highly advised to take care of your oral health. The following are a few tips that can help you maintain good oral hygiene.

  1. Brush daily and not aggressively – Everyone knows that brushing twice a day is important to keep teeth clean and remove unwanted bacteria and plaque. But only a few know that brushing is effective only if done properly.

The right way is to brush the teeth softly in small circular motions. Also, make sure that every tooth is cleaned from its front, back as well as top. Do not commit the mistake of brushing teeth aggressively, as it can damage your tooth gums and enamels.

  1. Use toothpaste containing fluoride – Fluoridated toothpaste is important as fluoride hardens the tooth enamel. It thus reduces the risk of tooth decay. Moreover, brushing and flossing can only prevent cavities if you use fluoride.
  2. Floss your teeth once a day – Flossing helps you clean the area between the teeth that is hard for the brush to reach. It completely removes debris and food particles from your teeth corners and prevents bad breath.

It is suggested to avoid moving the floss up and down between the teeth as it will cause pain, and you will not be able to remove trapped food effectively.

  1. Visit the dentist for regular check-ups – Experts recommend seeing a dentist twice a year for a routine check-up. The dentist examines your teeth and gums thoroughly in the check-up and removes plaque and hardened tartar. If they notice any visual sign of gum disease, mouth cancer, or cavity, they even use X-rays to know the problem.

Furthermore, studies tell that people who see the dentist every six months have a low risk of oral health problems. However, it is suggested only to visit the dentist who has enough experience to effectively deal with the oral problem. Don’t overlook any of the above-given tips if you want your oral health to stay at its best!
